Serving Our Children
Bible Sunday Is September 13
Opportunities for Children
Have you ever wanted to share a lesson or idea with our congregation's kiddos? If so, please consider signing up to lead the Time with Children portion of our Sunday worship service. Our children get the opportunity to learn from members of the congregation, providing them with diverse perspectives and a deep sense of community. No regular commitment needed, just a weekly sign-up when you are available and willing to lead. If you are interested or want to learn more, please reach out to Jen Koop, jennifer.ah.koop@gmail.com or 801-673-3862.
All children and youth are invited to join us at worship as we celebrate Bible Sunday during our 10:15 am worship service on September 13. During the service, elementary, middle, and high school students will receive a Bible to use as they grow in their faith and explore Scripture. Questions? Email Bridget Wachter.
Children’s Room and Sunday School
Loving care is provided in the Children’s Room for children during the 9:00 am adult education hour and during worship. Parents are welcome to check in/check out of the Children’s Room or stay with their children as needed.
Sunday School classes begin on September 13, 2026. Children remain with their families for the beginning of our 10:15 am worship service, then leave for Sunday School classes after the Time with Children during worship. After worship has ended, parents and guardians pick up their children in the classrooms.
Children who are kindergarten and younger meet in the Children’s Room (near the Sanctuary) for story time and engaging play stations. First through fifth graders gather in Rooms 2 and 3 for music, prayers, Bible stories, and fun hands-on activities.
The Sunday School curriculum is based on practices Jesus did and taught us to do as faithful followers. This curriculum examines where those practices are found in the Bible and how they are used in Christian faith. Questions? Email Bridget Wachter.
Summer Sunday School
Our Summer Sunday School classes will focus on the theme, “Love Like Jesus.” All children entering kindergarten through 5th grade are invited to Summer Sunday School. After the Passing of the Peace during the worship service, Sunday School staff will lead the children to Rooms 2 and 3, where they will engage through scripture, stories, and activities. Questions? Email Bridget Wachter.
Kids Can Do God’s Work
In February 2025, we launched our extended Sunday School class, Kids Can Do God’s Work, where children enjoy lunch and participate in a variety of activities to serve others.
Kids Can Do God’s Work in 2026
January 25: Our popular Kids Can Do God’s Work series returned. This event focused on "being a sweetheart" and doing kind things for fellow church members who are unable to attend worship and those in the hospital. We decorated gift bags, made wooden snowmen and Valentines, along with bookmarks for patients at Delnor, enjoyed a pizza party.
April 19: Earth stewardship projects were the focus for this Kids Can Do God’s Work event. Children ages 3-grade 2 learned about the importance of birds in God’s creation. They watched videos, read Light as a Feather, learned about the Merlin app to identify bird and their songs, and painted bird houses. The children in grades 3-8 learned about decomposers and composting from the Geneva Park District and made miniature composting bins.

The Children and Family Library
The Children and Family Library is located in the lower gathering space near the cafe. Everyone is encouraged to check out books to read with a special child in your life. Here are the latest additions to the library:
Binkle’s Time to Fly is a heartwarming children’s picture book written by Sharmila Collins and illustrated by Carolina Rabei. It tells the story of Binkle, a caterpillar who emerges from his cocoon only to discover his wings are weak and filled with holes. With the help of his friends and a little creativity, he discovers there is more than one way to fly.
The Good for Nothing Tree is written by Amy-Jill Levine & Sandy Eisenberg Sasso and Illustrated by Annie Bowler. A tiny fig tree needs time to grow. But how much time? All four seasons go by…and there are no figs. The seasons pass again. Still no figs! Is the fig tree good for nothing? Inspired by the parable of the barren fig tree, The Good for Nothing Tree reminds us that the sweetest figs, like many other things, are worth waiting for. Not every tree — and not every child —grows at the same pace. Yet patience, care, and love can change everything, making what may appear “good for nothing” very good. A note about the parable’s New Testament origins and a recipe are included.
Summer Tutoring Program
Our 2026 summer tutoring program has now wrapped up, and we wish to extend our thanks to our dedicated volunteers, as well as the Mission Committee members and Community Garden workers who helped us to provide groceries and fresh produce for tutoring families.

Worship, Music & Service
Children in Worship
We believe that if children are to come to understand the importance of a lifetime of attending worship, they must participate in worship with their family. We love the sounds and the curiosity of our youngest disciples as we praise God together. To aid parents with this practice, we have busy bags to keep busy hands occupied. The Children’s Room is always available during the 10:15 am worship service, and if you need to step out for a moment, audio is pumped out into the Upper Gathering Space.
Music
Our children’s music and worship leadership components are now wrapped into our Sunday School program. These components are led by Bridget Wachter, our Children’s Ministry Committee Chair and Chancel Choir member. You will see children leading music (or other parts of worship) at least once each month.
Mission and Service
Also wrapped into our Sunday School program are projects which challenge children to think about their faith beyond the walls of the church and their family. We will regularly engage in projects with the wider church, or even encourage the adults in the congregation to join our children in various efforts to show God’s love in our local community and around the globe.
